9th grade (Sections 12-13)

We reviewed our Aboriginal Notes from last class and recalled information from my lecture. After, students shared their “Found Poems”- Wow these were lovely- and despite the words were “found” and rearranged- the essence of this important Aboriginal Myth was maintained. We watched a film on Aboriginal Dreamtime and wrote down 5 facts into our notes. If you were absent you will have to come see me during lunch to watch this film- it will take 25 minutes. Short day today!

HOMEWORK: Read the two myths in your packet from last class: “Curlew” and “BurrNong”

11th Grade (Section 12)

We reviewed the concept of symbolism being embedded deep into our psyche, and recalled the activity from last class. The symbols Hawthorn has used in his short story reflect a much deeper emotional state than the words present. I showed a PowerPoint on the difference between symbolism and archetypes and we identified the three major archetypes in the story. Yes, there was also a reading quiz. If you were out see me for version B of this quiz. Lastly, students grouped up to create a story board with symbols and meaningful quotes representing the most essential points of this tricky story. We will finish these and present next class.

HOMEWORK: Read “The Birthmark” and annotate for symbolism and duality (especially light vs dark)
