About Joel
My commitment to education began in 1997 as a tutor at the University of Oregon. I graduated from University of Oregon in 1997 with a B.S. in General Science. I continued my studies in Spanish the next year to prepare for the field of education. Once I graduated I worked for Education Support Services in 4J to help at risk, needy, and special education students. In addition, my first teaching assignment was at Cal Young teaching science. My interest in Spanish Language and Science led me to work in the North region in 2001. I started teaching at Madison that year and instructed in the classroom through June 2009. I continued my career in education as an administrator at Roosevelt Middle School for three years before I was hired at Awbrey Park. Many of my co-workers enjoy my sense of humor and calm demeanor. Most importantly, they notice my dedication to children and families and patience.
I was born in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Most of my childhood was in Southern California, raised by a teacher and an engineer. My family moved to Oregon in 1994 and I began my studies here. My wife Anna and I have been together since 1996. We have two children, Lila and Solomon. Lila is in third grade and Solomon starts kindergarten Fall 2012 at Edgewood Community School.
I am so excited to collaborate and build relationships at Awbrey Park. This year will bring such hope and opportunity for many young people in North Eugene. I am proud to be a part of that.
