Electric Cars, iPads and Research oh my!

Grades: Before you read any further, please check your grades and make sure that you have all work turned in. The goal is to have all students at or above a C- and currently there are 10 students who have Ds and Fs.

iPads: I sent home the iPad user agreement this week and it is due Friday April 19th. Before you will be allowed to use the iPads you must turn in this form signed by a parent and initialed by both of you to show that you have read and agree to the document. Mr. Kresko and I are looking forward to using the iPads for several upcoming projects, but be patient with us because we are still learning. We will also try to use the iPads for our next quiz. Electric Cars: As a precursor to our solar car unit we will be doing an electric car work sample. Starting Friday April 19th you will be learning to build electric cars from a kit. You will then develop a question with your small group and design a work sample. You will manipulate something about the car and then ask how that will affect speed and acceleration or hill climbing abillity. You will produce the work sample in pages on the iPad and turn it in using Edmodo.

Energy websiteEnergy Research Project: We will begin a short research project on different forms of energy, renewable and non renewable and their effects on the environment as well as there benefits and drawbacks. Stay tuned for more information on this.

OAKS testing: In the second week of May, we will be helping you to review for your science OAKS test. You will be visiting the 6th and 7th grade teachers for a review day and we will be using the iPads for 8th grade OAKs review. Testing will occur on May 9th and 10th in your normal class periods. If you know you will be absent those days please plan to come in early to make up the missed test.

Solar Cars: As soon as OAKS is over we will dive into solar cars. More on that later! It’s a busy time of year. Please try to be in school every day.
