3/1 Article = 3/8 Article
Since homerooms won’t be meeting on Thursday, please save the article for next week, March 8th. If you have already begun it, please stretch it out for another week. In case you need it, there’s a second page not included in the copies I usually print out. That might come in handy.

2/27 Behavior Expectations Review:
First of all, thank you for powering through the last three weeks of Tuesday homeroom. The hope now is that you and your students will have some shared vocabulary when it comes to disagreements in the classroom. Starting this week, we are going to introduce two things: (1) A weekly courtyard cleaning rotation for homeroom classes (to begin the following week); (2) Kindness Month. More information can be found in Tuesday’s slideshow here: https://goo.gl/sXKbe2.
3/1 Article:
See attached for this week’s article: Should shopping malls be allowed to institute teen curfews? While the title talks about shopping malls, consider expanding the scope to include movie theaters, restaurants, parks, etc. Hard copies are stacked next to the mailboxes and ready to go.
Golden Plunger Award:
Congrats to Mrs. Cockram’s class for keeping a super clean room! I’ll be in contact with you to figure out a good time for a pizza party.
Breakfast of Champions:
February’s Breakfast of Champions is slated for the 2/27 from 8:15-8:45am. A hearty thank you from myself and the folks in the office for taking this on and following through with it from month after month. I’ve only heard good things from students.
2/20-2/23 PBIS
2/21 PBIS Meeting: There will be a PBIS meeting in my room, 705, on Wednesday from 2:45-3:45. I plan to show updated SWIS data to see how referral data has changed, to debrief on recent PRIDE activities, and to solicit new ideas from team members, particularly with regard to how we can support pro-social behaviors in adolescent boys (since 95% of our major referrals are earned by boys).
February Breakfast of Champions
February’s Breakfast of Champions is slated for the 2/27 from 8:15-8:45am. The theme is Always Looks Out for Others. These are the students who think about others before themselves, the team players, the students who make your classrooms more cohesive and harmonious places to learn.
2/5-2/9
This week’s Tuesday slideshow will be the first of ~3 part series examining the escalation cycle. On 2/6, students will reflect on a recent/memorable argument they’ve had and examine how their behavior changed over the course of the event. Next week, we’ll teach students the “Escalation Cycle.” We’ll have a PD regarding this on 2/7 so that we’re prepared for it.
Here’s this week’s article. There’s a stack of hard copies (10 per homeroom) next to the boxes for your to take from if needed.
1/29-2/2
Group PRIDE Challenge and Tuesday Slideshow:
For the first two weeks of February, I thought we’d try something new. We’ll be doing a group PRIDE challenge (kudos to Ginny for the idea) where students must pool together PRIDE bucks in their homerooms in order to win a special Valentine’s Day treat. Teachers won’t have to do anything extra beyond giving out PRIDE bucks and collecting them in homeroom. As I have it on the slideshow:
“From now until February 12th (two days before Valentine’s Day), we want to see which homeroom class can pool together the most PRIDE bucks. Whichever class collects the most will win a special Valentine’s Day treat.
These are not just any PRIDE bucks though: You must collect PINK bucks, which teachers and staff will be giving out starting today!”
So on 2/12 (MON) we’ll see which class has the most bucks, and on 2/13 (TUE) that class will receive a Valentine’s Day treat, which I’m imagining will look something like a couple VD card packs and some kind of snack. I’ll provide you all with the PINK bucks (check mailboxes).
Thursday Article:
Also, Thursday’s article is here, in a forthcoming email, and stacked next to the mailboxes. I will leave the stack there for you to take from as needed.
