More new law overview: http://www.oregonlive.com/commuting/index.ssf/2017/09/oregons_new_distracted_driving.html (good for the class to read together)
Highlights:
- You can’t touch or hold your phone at all while driving anymore, even at a red lights
- Why no red lights? (good discussion question)
- People return to driving in a haste (or keep texting) which is unsafe for pedestrians, etc
- People starting late at green lights is having a measurable increase in traffic congestion
- Previous laws basically just said no phone use, but didn’t outlaw things like GPS, music, or surfing the net (do kids still say “surfing the net?”)
- GPS can still be used in a hand-free holder, provided you don’t touch it.
- Pull over to setup your GPS or music.

Discussion Questions:
- Do the people you drive with use their phone and drive?
- Do you experience people in the hallways on their phone?
- Do you use your phone while walking?
- What is the social rule for texting and walking (don’t, stop walking and put your back up to a solid object)
- Good for a writing response: Which is more dangerous, driving or walking when on the phone?
- Good for a writing response: Should Sheldon “outlaw” using your phone while walking? What should the consequence be?
