Although they hold almost 52 percent of all professional-level jobs, American women lag substantially behind men when it comes to their representation in leadership positions: They are only 14.6 percent of executive officers, 8.1 percent of top earners, and 4.6 percent of Fortune 500 CEOs.Mar 7, 2014

In 2017, 104 (78D, 26R) women hold seats in the United States Congress, comprising 19.4% of the 535 members; 21 women (21%) serve in the United States Senate, and 83 women (19.1%) serve in the United States House of Representatives.
 
Women didn’t get the right to vote in the us until 1920. 
 
The gender pay gap in the United States is the ratio of female to male median yearly earnings among full-time, year-round (FTYR) workers. The average woman’s unadjusted annual salary has been cited as 78% to 82% of that of the average man’s.
