Our plans are not for any specific type of bird so we got a generic birdhouse plan. We made a hole large enough for some smaller species of birds to fit. We made the house not big enough for a large bird like a crow but for small birds that are common.
We hung the birdhouse out in a tree by the street. I thought this was a better idea than the backyard because birds and humans will notice it better. The birdhouse is stained dark so it sticks out agains the lightly colored trees.
One problem I ran into is that when we were looking for the right wood we couldn’t find the right size at the first store we went to so we had to go to a different store instead. I would recommend using a better saw than we did because we didn’t really make exact cuts and I’m sure there are more accurate saws. If I did this again I would probably try a new plan to see the difference.
