Some items of note for this week:

Staffing Allocations Distributed on Friday – Principals will receive staffing allocations this Friday, April 12th. Staffing plans will be due less than two weeks later on Thursday, April 25th. Once I get our allocations, I will email staff what we received.  Also, we will have a short standup meeting for all staff on Monday morning at 7:45 to give people a chance to ask questions and make suggestions.  Site Council will see my first plans on the 17th of April and I plan on sharing those plans and their feedback with staff at an optional meeting on April 18th at 3:00. The regular staff  meeting will occur on April 23rd and will also include time for input. Please let me know if you have any thoughts or questions around this.

Friday, Planning/Partial Furlough Day – This Friday is a non-student planning day and for certified staff it is also a four hour furlough day. For everyone else, this is a normal work day.

Title 1 April Newsletter – This month’s Title 1 blog post mostly consists of a bundle of Title Coordinator tasks and deadlines, but there are a couple good articles if you’re interested.

McTeacher’s Nite North Region Fundraiser – NERA (North Eugene Retirees Association) is holding their second annual McTeacher’s Nite on April 18, 5:00-8:00 PM at the River Avenue McDonald’s. They are looking for volunteers from each North region school to come and serve as greeters and general supporters. Let me know if you’d be able to volunteer and the approximate times you could be at McDonald’s. I went to their last fundraiser at Carl’s Jr. and really just bought some food and talked to retired teachers and administrators. I also got a chance to see some of my former Madison students.

Classroom resources to celebrate National Poetry Month – In celebration of April as National Poetry Month, Edutopia Editorial Assistant Matt Davis in this blog post suggests several resources for teachers to include poetry in classroom lessons. Among them are poets.org, a sort of “one-stop shop” for poetry, and ReadWriteThink, which includes poetry-focused lesson plans for students in all grade levels.

Planning end of the year events:  The end of the year is quickly coming upon us. This year there will not be a carnival. I am planning a field day with Lisa Chinn, our PE teacher. In addition, CABA (Chinese American Benevolent Association) will be helping us host a Dragon Boat Festival in the last week of school. This will be an early evening event that involves folklore story telling, music, and dance. If you would like to help plan this event or have other ideas please contact me. We will be careful to plan around field trips and celebrations for these events.

Have a Great Week!

Joel
