Friday the 13th!

Well, we are starting to get back in a rhythm here…. If you have been out please catch up over out 3 day weekend. Also, be sure to check out LCC’s MLK Celebration on Monday at 5-7.

9th Graders: We turned in our parables and completed discussion questions from our last reading. Most classes got to finish the discussion, but if not this will be completed next class. By next class you should have read up to page 159! Next class we will present our parables and talk Buddhism and the book!

HW: Read to 159 for next class; Assignment #3 due Wednesday/Thursday

11th Graders: We have finished Whitman! I handed out booklets for our Industrialization unit and we jigsawed Carl Sandburg poetry. If you were out see me for the yellow handout- that I also collected after we presented.

HW: Read “The Lost Beautifulness”; Analysis and Annotations are due Tuesday!

11th Grade: We completed our performances of “I Sing the Body Electric” and began our analysis. If you were out – see me for the grey sheet.

HW: Begin Analysis. I would love to collect them next class, and know they are due on Tuesday, along with your annotations.

9th Grade Lit: Today we shared our assignment #2 and turned these in. We also read  Zen parables to get ready for out own creative writing next class.

HW: Read to page 113. Ensure Chart #1 and #2 are completed.

Post Break Update

Welcome Back! After the ice delays you might be wondering what you should be prepared for coming in next class

9th Graders: Please come in having read up to page 95. That’s it! Assignment #2 will be due the class after.

11th graders: Please arrive with completed annotations for “Come Up from the Field’s Father” and “When Lilac’s Last in the Dooryard Bloomed”.

IOPs have been rescheduled for this up coming Friday. See you soon!

9th Grade: Today 9th graders took a reading quiz on the first 37 pages of he novel. We then read a myth from the Kojiki and discussed symbols and elements of the story. Reminder that Assignment #1 is due next class!

HW: Read to page 53 and complete Assignment #1

11th Grade: Today we discussed “Song of Myself” .

HW: Read and annotate “Lilacs Last in a Dooryard Bloom’ed”

Tuesday Nov 29th

9th Grade: We completed a peer edit for our essays. I also showed students the online OWL writing Lab – where we looked at transitions to add to our writing. Final Essay is due on December 6th (Tuesday!) and will include final copy, outline, peer edit sheet, and quote chart.

9th Grade (5th Period): We completed an activity wrapping up Australia and transitioning into Asia. Students then began an article “Home was a Horse Stall” that sets up the context of WWII in our novel.

HW: Complete the article for next class.

11th Grade: We discussed “Self Reliance”. HW: Read Civil Disobedience and please bring in an article/current event for next class.

Homework Update

9th: Do you best to COMPLETE the first 4 paragraphs of your essay- the intro and 3 body paragraphs. It feels like most of you are basically done with this as we had two full days of writing in class. Print out if possible or e-mail me and I can print it for you!

9th Grade: This week we are working on our essays. I am reviewing mini lessons on 1.) writing engaging hooks and 2.) embedding quotes into our writing. Otherwise, we have class work time for Writer’s Workshop. If you were out review this for guidance: outlining-essay

HW: BE SURE to have a COMPLETED Rough Draft on Monday after the long weekend. We will edit these on Monday.

11th Grade LOTA: In- Class Timed passage analysis is this week. These are to be completed in class BEFORE break. If you were out you will need to talk with me about making this up. Furthermore, we are handing in our Poetry Packet Notes this week.

HW: Nature Walk. See the 1/2 green sheet for details.

9th Grader: We have begun the writing process for our Australia Essay. By Monday, please ensure you come in with a complete outline. Review the PowerPoint for examples on thesis, topic sentences, and quote support. outlining-essay

11th Graders: We enjoyed a number of IB Oral Presentations. If you were out be sure to do a thorough analysis of #712. Passage analysis next week!

HW: Ensure annotations are complete for the poems listed on your reading schedule.

Monday/Tuesday 11/14-11/15

9th Grade: All 9th grade classes watched the film “Rabbit Proof Fence”. If you were out you can either rent the film from me, or just opt out of using the film as one of the sources for your essay.

HW: Green Film Guide is due next class!

11th Grade: We discussed the Human Condition in Emily Dickinson’s poetry. Students discussed #254 in their groups- and then selected and presented upon another selected poem. We will finish these presentations next class

HW: Ensure 254 and 258 are fully annotated.

Monday 11/7- Thursday 11/10

9th Grade: This week we completed our Convict Ballads and also completed our Settler Perspective with the reading of “The Drover’s Wife”. If you were out, know that you need to turn in your ballad. We also filled out our Theme Chart for all of the stories. Please follow the attached PP to find the questions to be answered for “The Drover’s Wife” droverem

HW for Monday: Look up 3 facts on Australia’s Stolen Generation

11th Grade: We are deep into the poetry of Emily Dickinson. So far you should have annotated in your packets (Using the Vendler Guide!) #510, 511, 520, and 986. Review PPoint for specifics. Be sure to turn your Portfolio in to me- they are due Thursday (late work 20% off). dickinson-day-2em
