General Information

If you are an 8th grader who is thinking about doing band in high school, then the information on this page is for you! Here is a short summary of the way the band program at Sheldon works your freshman year.

9th grade:

Concert Band:

Most incoming 9th grade students who want to be in band will be in the 3rd period Concert Band. Band is a year-long class, so incoming 9th graders should be prepared to be enrolled in their band class all year.

We have 4 band concerts a year, and 2 Concert Band festivals in which all band students at Sheldon participate.

As a freshman, students also have the opportunity to participate in pep band, musical pit orchestra, winter drumline/percussion ensemble, and various honor bands in our community. Students also have the opportunity to get a “letter” in band for their letterman’ jackets.

Advanced Groups:

Incoming 9th graders who perform at a high level (upon teacher recommendation) have the opportunity to audition into one of our upper groups, including Marching Band and Jazz Band. These groups require a high level of dedication and musical ability. If you are a student who is interested in auditioning into one of these groups, please see your middle school director.
