The Ring

I saw her sink to the bottom of the ocean. There was no light but the shining glimpse of her crystal blue eyes fading away to the deep and dark underworld.

I looked at her as if there was something more to her missing. She was mysterious, someone who captured every little meaning to life in one gesture.

The strength and courage she had was unbearably unspoken. Wise and fierce, I could never take my eyes off her. Watching her fade away, I started to become unconscious as I felt myself sink. There was a light, a light that lit up the darkness surrounding her. Blinding me, I knew there was emotion and power, something so real, so untouchable. There was life to it, a chance of survival.

Pinned down to the rocky cliffs holding on for hope, she was fragile as a delicate rose.

There was strength hidden in the hurt and loss. That ring held tight to her forgiveness as she screamed out the tears of pain.

A slap on the face; blood whipped across her chest. The breath of him swarmed her mouth as the others around her screamed the hurt she felt.

A long pause and a quick hesitation lasted a moment as the bell tower rang. The Orphanage calling as the boys rushed back, leaving her there to remember.

As the moon rose, shining through the light fluffy clouds, she awoke to the breathtaking view of the night. She watched as the ships sailed out to the ocean, disappearing into the fog. She lay out on the rooftop, wind brushing her long brown hair to the side of her rosy cheeks. Looking at the stars begin to shimmer, she wished for something more, a life too far away to reach. I wanted to tell her, “There are no dreams without dreamers, Jewel.” Precious as a sunflower, too delicate to take any chances with, you will overcome your desires, you will embrace the new as it is a risky battle. Lean towards where the light shines, accept the darkness the night brings, cry to the shooting star; it will hear your voice, but listen to what your heart feels deep inside your fragile self.

As the sun rose, she woke to the smell of the salty sea. A ship pulled to the side of the harbor. A crew of men gathered around, following the captain like sheep following their herd. Never has Jewel seen such an opening to freedom as she watched the men haul boxes back into their ship. There was a side entrance formed for the men hauling supplies. As she looked at her hand, her ring shined, making her eyes come alive. A moment of truth and excitement filled her heart as her mind was filled with new opportunities, a chance of courage and strength. Panting as she threw herself through the crowd of children, racing, her mind as fast as a bolt of lightning, heads turned to see her vanish across the hills above the harbor. Out of breath, she felt the motion of the breeze brushing against her knees, hair in her face, cheeks warm as the summer heat. She stood there in in the field of pollen and ferns, eyes opened to the thought of hope. Her heart so fragile, so lovely, so strong. Throwing her smile to the sun, she closed her eyes once again and let the wind carry her to a safer place.

She looked in the mirror, and saw herself begin to shine.

She pulled out a knife from her dresser drawer and held it to her ear. The weight of her wavy long hair fell to the floor.

She slipped off her dress that hugged her lean body. Her heart pounded as she scrounged for a pair of overalls and a hat. She gave herself up for something more, something with more life.

She left her body lie alone in regret and pain as she watched the world move on, leaving her behind.

The night carried on as she made her way to the harbor. It was crisp and foggy before the sailors took off to sea.

The moon shone over her head, holding her up; not looking back, she carried on as the ship faded away into the thickness of fog.

Disguised in what appears to be a young man, Jewel had no end to what she had now become. Boarding the ship, she had no longer felt the lonesomeness of a new beginning.

A few sunsets had passed, and not knowing where she would end up, Jewel would wait, longing for a chance of settlement someplace new.

She kept ahold of her ring- placed it in a red box underneath her pillow in the cabin. The further the ship traveled in disperse of a long journey, every moon risen above, appeared to elaborate the ring’s will of strength and power. The integrity of forcing herself out of comfort continued to increase as Jewel had grown more away of what the future holds.

Laying awake, looking up at the stars twinkling with a spark of humor, she saw me come over, leaning against the rusty railing and looking out to the frisk motion of waves balancing on top of one another.

I turned around to see you.

Sitting up, you rushed to scrape for your hat. As you flung it around on top of your messy wavy curls the salty sea had created, you then looked up at me.

There was a feeling of mystery flowing through your eyes. I forced myself to look back out to the sea which was traveling quicker now. The motion had accelerated, making the ship sway heavily. I closed my eyes, in return feeling the color green show across my pale skin. The moment I had turned around to open my eyes to the crew fighting the sea for survival. It was an unfortunate battle as the waves of terror rose above taking the souls with it.

I saw you run from the action the wind had carried as you made your way to your sacred box. You shoved the ring across your delicate finger.

I glanced over to watch you fall to the heat of the waves pushing you down to the floor. Weak and alone, I ran, holding my hand out to you. I could feel your hand touch mine in the midst of one last breath.

I threw my mind out as instincts took over.

I saw your eyes shine away as we sunk one after the other leaving nothing behind but the touch of your hand.
There was a light, a light that lit up the darkness surrounding her. Blinding me, I knew there was emotion and power, something so real, so untouchable. There was life to it, a chance of survival.

You swayed with the motion the current pulled you, it was like flying freely to the comfort of courage.

You glanced up, leaning forward pressing your heart to the dearest sound of confusion surrounding us.

Your sour lips pressed against the ring, a pleasant touch of one life to the other gave true force of enabling the ability to overcome your greatest fear of death.

The truth of force carried your fragile self to the beat of the waves, a gentle ability of softness created an unforgettable life.

The range of elaboration your fingertips had spread, surrounding yourself with effort and stability making the current obey to your demands.

My flustered self was shook from the frosty thorns from the deep red rose you have become. Your temper of balance formed into something new, a gift of a new life from forgiveness and hope rearranged into a spark of pure beauty and grace. You were nothing but a breathtaking view.

Free verse poetry

Holding Me Close

Free as a bird

Young I was, a baby bird learning to fly

Holding myself close to You,-warm and pure-

Pure as sunbread filling my heart

Pure and content- nothing more than the touch of your hand

Hear me loud and clear- the delight of your presence, graceful and strong

Darling You; hold my spirit above, keep me safe and warm; let the touch of my hand be as graceful and powerful as You.

I will save every last breath to the one I adore most- You

You travel through my mind without me realizing- A bolt of lightning, subtle; yet bold

You sway my heart from all the good

Follow me to seek the rest of my desires life will bring

Make time slow down

Only allow the wind to carry You and I someplace special

And never stop flying- I’m right with You.

Lyric/ rhyming

Sing a Lullaby

With my head held high, wind brushes against my knees

Darling you, keep your voice steady as the wind will beat

All I need is someplace at peace, a bit of wine and some cheese

Fall down to your knees, pick a daisy and have a seat

Chorus:

Fly me to the moon

Let me free your lonesome heart

I won’t waste time, I’ll be there soon

My love for you is off the chart

Your voice is lost

As you drift from me

Do whatever it takes, as much as it may cost

I will catch you, wait and see

Chorus:

Fly me to the moon

Let me free your lonesome heart

I won’t waste time, I’ll be there soon

My love for you is off the chart

You may never know

Let the chill of frost mean something

The sky is now filled with snow

Now wait for snow

Warmth of us

Best of trust

You and I

We will fly

Embracing Your Flight

free as a bird you shall live

Yes, gentle and delicate

Yes, move with the wind

let it carry you

happy as can be with you

I am your star, shine with me

it is a new day

with life, embrace it.
