History: Central Park became the first landscape park in an American city, where it was open to a design competition to the public. In 1904, subways were opened to public. New York City became the most popular city in the 1920’s. 

Geography: The Hudson River flows through New York City, which helps it grow as a city more by making it a trading port. The total area of the city is 468.484 square miles, has 302.643 square miles of land, and 165.841 square miles of water. 

Climate: Winters in New York City are dam and cold. However, the weather in the spring and autumn can be unpredictable and range from cold to warm. The summers are hot!

Demographics: The median household income in the city is about $53,373. The people that live there that are foriegn born are about 35.7% of the city’s population. Since the population from 2000 to 2010, it has grown 2.1%. New York City is the most populous city in the United States. 

Econonmy/Industry: New York City has become well-known for the amount of businness done there. It is center for banking, financing, retailing, world trade, transportation, tourism, real estate, new media, advertising, etc. There are about 500 corporations that are headquartered in the city. In addition, chocolate in the city’s most popular food to export, up to $234 million worth of shipments every year. Wall Street is known for the headquarters for U.S. financial industry. 

Places to See and Things to do: When going to New York City, one can see the Statue of Liberty, which is taken care of by the National Park Service. Some state parks that one can see are the Clay Pit Ponds State Park Preserve and Riverbank State Park. City parks include Central Park, Washington Square Park, and Prospect Park.
