What did you see in Tom over Jay?

• Tom is a much more refined, sophisticated, mature man. Jay is new money, and still like a child.

Do you regret staying with Tom?

• No, I was young and foolish when I loved Jay. Tom is a much better provider, and now that Myrtle is dead maybe he’ll be more faithful.

Do you feel guilty about killing Myrtle?

• Slightly, but it was a necessary sacrifice for my greater good.

Why did you change your name and appearance to try an fit in with people of a higher social status?

• When I was young I grew up on a farm in North Dakota, and wasn’t very wealthy before I joined the Army so when I started making money it needed to seem like I was rich before so it wouldn’t be very suspicious

Did you feel like you were trapped in North Dakota and is that why you joined the military after you ran away?

• After I had ran away from home I didn’t really know what to do with myself and in need of money with the war starting I decided the best way to go was to just join the Army.

Why did you always throw such extravagant parties?

• I was trying to get Daisy. In the process of this though I was gaining a name for myself of throwing the best parties in the East Egg.

What drove you to be unfaithful?

• I wanted a change. George is poor and Tom is rich and I’ve always wanted to have money.

Did you still love George?

• George had his pros and cons, but deep down I’ll always have love for him.

Did you love Tom?

• My relationship with Tom was pretty shallow. He has money, a nice house, and he’s very strong compared to George. I loved his wealth and the sex and nothing more.
