Happy New Year and welcome back to school on January 4th.  These next few weeks of January will bring us to the end of the first semester.  Finals are January 25th and 26th.

Parents of 10th grade students,

This week sophomores are working on forecasting for classes for next year.  Every student has a forecasting form to complete.  Please take some time to review this sometime this week.  Thanks

Parents: Join me for a Principal’s Coffee–an informal conversation about whatever topics are on your mind.  Friday, March 4th 7:00-8:00 am. I’ll put the coffee on.

Tuesday, March 1st is North Eugene Preview Night for all 8th graders and their parents.  We are looking forward to the chance to present the IHS program to potential new students.  See you from 6:30-9:00.  IHS Mentor students should wear their NIHS mentor shirts and be on hand to help guide families and answer questions.

February 14-17 10th grade students will take the state Reading test.  Last week they received some pre-testing instruction in both their Literature and History classes.  Please be sure that students are at school, rested and ready to do their best.  This is the first attempt for students this year.  We will get you the results within two weeks of the test and let you know when follow up sessions are scheduled for students who do not pass on the first attempt.

We finished the second day of the second semester.  One suggestion to get the term off to a great start is to check the class syllabi students are given by teachers for information about homework, projects, and how to keep in touch with the teacher.  If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact Anne Erwin, NIHS Principal (541-790-4454)

NIHS is offering three sessions of Parent Academic Coaching.  During each session parents will receive hands on, practical tips for supporting the academic success of their students at home.  The sessions are scheduled for Saturday January 29th at 1:00, Tuesday February 1st and 7:00 pm, and Thursday, February 3rd at 7:30 am.  The sessions and all materials are available in English and Spanish.  RSVP by calling the NIHS office: 541-790-4454 or just come.
