Class Information

Attendance:
It is important for your child to be at school between 8:15-8:25. Our class instruction begins promptly at 8:25. When your child arrives late, he/she will miss either part of the instructional time or other directions for activities. Thanks for your help.

Binders:
This is the first year that your student will use a 3-ring binder. It is crucial that your child brings it to school every day! Organization is key for success! Helping your child keep their binder organized is most appreciated! Students will write the daily homework on the blue sheet in front of the binder. Homework will be placed behind the homework tab.

Birthday Parties:
If you would like to bring in a treat for your child’s birthday it would be helpful to have 48 hours notice for planning purposes. We will be making time for birthday treats only on the last Friday of each month. 4J has a policy about what can be brought to school. Please check the policy. Please contact me in advance if you would like to bring a healthy treat on that Friday.

Book Orders:
The Scholastic Book Clubs offers children a selection of quality paperback books at very reasonable prices. Order forms will be sent home periodically throughout the year. If you wish to order any books, you can either order on-line with our classroom code or fill out the order form and include a check for your purchase made out to Scholastic.

Reading Train:
Each month, your child will get a blank homework reading calendar to record the minutes they read at home for homework. These minutes count toward their reading train goal. Our reading train goal for 4th grade is 3000 minutes to earn a medal. Reading calendars will be collected at the end of the month.

Schedule:

Snack:
Snack is every morning following morning recess. Please send an individual healthy snacks with your child that are quick and easy to eat, such as fruit, crackers, cheese, yogurt, etc. Water bottles are also encouraged. *Donations of snacks would be greatly welcome!

State Testing:
Your child will be assessed throughout the year both at a district and state level. This year students will be taking the state reading and math tests. Students will also complete district science, math, and writing work samples. In addition, all fourth grade students must complete a speech to meet fourth grade state benchmarks.

Communication:
Good communication between home and school is extremely valuable. A communication “folder” will go home Monday of each week. In it you will find corrected work, notes, newsletters, reminders, any requests, and other information that is pertinent to you. Please empty the folder and send it back to school with your child. Also, never hesitate to contact me with any concerns or questions you may have. You can call, write me a note, e-mail, or make an appointment to come in and meet with me. Thank you for your support!
