Hello ATA students & Families,
We are almost to summer break, and I don’t think it can really get her quick enough. This last 14+ months have been a whirl wind of challenges, struggles and personal growth for so many of us. This pandemic has been tough on everyone. For teens and their developing brains, and ever changing bodies, this pandemic has been particularly hard for many. Many “A students” have struggled recently trying to maintain focus on school work and have grown completely sick of staring at their computers and iPads for school and for many, their only way to connect with peers.
Obviously any educator would like to see students grasping all the concepts, understanding topics and turning in the best work of their lives, but we need to keep in mind, this is middle school. Yes, developing strong study habit is key for early success in high school, but at what cost?
Are you struggling with classes but still enjoy playing your favorite instrument? Have you discovered new books you enjoy? Have you learned a new hubby during this time? Have you discovered your more orginized or have developed better organizational skills during this pandemic and can’t wait to return to the classroom fill time so you can achieve even more than before? I hear many of these things from students and parents.
My goal is that you have grown, learned new things and most of all, obtained a healthy perspective as to what really matters. Your mental health is more important than the grade you earned in a class. Middle school students have been forced to learn new computer programs, zoom and file management just as high school students, college students, teachers and adults have at the same time.
It has been an amazing spring here in Eugene. I do not recall ever having this much sun this early in the year here. I hope you are all able to enjoy it, get outside, away from devices, yes i also mean your video games. Fortnite and other games will be there when the rain return..
We are almost to summer break! You’ve got this!
