I don’t know about most of you, but I wish someone would jump up and yell “Aprils Fools” and we could go back to school tomorrow. We diffidently are living in uncertain times. I know administration personal have not taken much time off since we were last in school. Attempting to be proactive and make plans all while waiting to hear guidelines from the Governor and Oregon Department of Education. Some days have felt like two steps forward one step backwards. Some other days it five step one direction three another with a spin and a twirl thrown in for good measure.
Teachers and I are starting to call those families who did or could not reply to the district email about technology availability in your homes. We will be starting “classes” online very soon. This is nothing to become overly concerned about. It is going to be a slow process and will not be much of a requirement compared to regular classroom situations. The first week alone will be around technology standards and expectations. Checking in with students and continuing to build the community and relationships we have at ATA.
A couple months ago I started a Instagram Account for students and the school. “CounselorScottP”. My original goal was just to post some positive things happening around the building. I know many of our students use Instagram. Now I feel it may be a great way for students to message me if needed. It is quicker and easier than email. I will be holding office hours on Zoom. I would like to have some small group check-ins and discussions on that format. If we need to have more one to one meetings, we can arrange those as well.
I also have started a You Tube page. My goal is to share on another format kids use everyday. I will have some lessons and activities. Who knows where that go. My goal is to just reach kids where they are at.
I hope everyone is staying healthy, active and isolated. The only way this is going to end is through self discipline and isolation. I fear this pandemic is going to grow dramatically over the next month or more.
Take care of yourselves, please email me if needed or even if it just to check in and say hello. I miss seeing the kids everyday.
Peace and Health,
Scott
