This is Ringo, North Eugene senior Penelope Lane’s senior dog. Penelope describes Ringo as stinky and lazy. Ringo’s favorite toy is a little lamb he has torn up badly. She also says “he gets scared of his own farts, he’s really sleepy, he’s stubborn, and he loves to play dress up, as well as dance.” Penelope adopted Ringo from Greenhill Humane Society when he was seven years old. Upon finding this out, we took some time to research Greenhill and all the services they offer. Greenhill Humane Society is a private non-profit organization located here in Eugene. They’ve been helping animals find homes and escape unhealthy living situations since 1944. In the last year alone, they have provided new homes to 2,826 animals. There are a few ways to help Greenhill in their endeavors: volunteering (Seniors! This could be a good opportunity for community service hours), donating, or adopting.

Speaking of adopting, several animals are up for adoption at Greenhill now, and many have been adopted and have amazing stories. This adorable dog named Tamera is one of the lucky ones. Greenhill had a few things to say about her, “Tamera had been at the shelter since June 2023 after Animal Welfare Officers brought her, her five puppies and two siblings in.

She was in poor physical condition, was malnourished, had a filthy coat, and was fearful of being handled. After settling in and getting healthy, she turned into a staff & volunteer favorite. We are both thrilled and excited for this girl to be going home!” Tamera had been at Greenhill for 187 days and we are so happy she found a new forever home. After briefly speaking to Greenhill, they shared with us that “the greatest gift we can give a homeless animal is a loving family.

Adopting a pet not only saves their life, but makes more room at the shelter for other animals in need of a safe place. Plus, the memories created with your new furry friend will be timeless.”

We are grateful to have Greenhill Humane Society nearby and helping homeless animals get a second chance at life. Furthermore, if you want a chance to showcase your pet in the next article of Pet of the Month, let us know!
