The First Week

The air may have been smoky, but we got off to a rolling start in the classroom this week! I appreciate the time so many of you took to come to school for our open house on Tuesday. If we didn’t get a chance to meet yet, please feel free to stop by and introduce yourself when you are at Willagillespie.

The students have been jumping into our classroom and school routines. We will continue with community building activities, practicing routines and beginning of the year assessments for the next two weeks. Then, we’ll be in full swing with the good work of third grade.

This year, I’m trying out CLASS DOJO for the first time as a way to communicate with families. Hopefully it can take the place of printed newsletters and make for smooth parent/teacher communication. Look for the instruction sheet in your child’s Monday folder with directions on how to sign up and please let me know if you have any difficulties.

I’ll be presenting in room 17 from 7:20 – 8:00. That will be a good time to find out more details about what our class will be working on in 3rd grade.

BOOK ORDERS: The first book order is due back Tuesday, September 19. Return the paper order to me, or you can order online. The link is on the “Book Orders” page of our class web site. The online class code is JDNF6. Scholastic is a great source for books and I use the bonus points to stock our classroom library.

HOMEWORK: The first homework should be in your child’s Monday folder. Use the monthly calendar to track reading and have your child return it at the end of September. The math sheets and optional math challenge are due back Friday.
