MADISON INFORMATION

  • FOCUS Slides:
    • Monday Climate Survey Link: Linked here (English / Spanish) is the climate survey for 3rd-5th grade students. Please plan to have students take the survey by Friday, May 20. I highly recommend projecting the survey and having kids go question by question with you. The font is small and the format might be confusing for some kids. It asks questions about where they go to school, how safe they feel at school, and a lot of questions about bullying. Here are the directions and a video to show beforehand:
      1. Please show the 7-minute video linked here, Learning About Bullying Pt 1, before administering
      2. Assure students that their answers are completely confidential and others will not know how they responded.

  • Testing Update: This week, we will begin math testing. We have over 70 opt-out students going to the library, so please keep any kids who are testing with Ms. Brooks and can reliably remain quietly in the classroom, and send students who you fear will be a behavior problem to the office

DISTRICT INFORMATION

  • Self-Harm Event Recording: Linked here is the recording from the parent information event about self-harm event that was held on April 25 at Sheldon. It could be a good resource if families reach out about self-harming behaviors.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING AND OTHER INFORMATION

  • Ideas to Countdown the Year: Keeping in mind that the end of a school year can be difficult for some students, it’s also a good time to have some fun together. Whether you tie a countdown number to the activity or just make some space each day for a little fun together, here are some ideas from Teaching Made Practical. They are from upper elementary, but several ideas that would still work great for middle school.
