From late September to mid December, there is an offseason competition held in Portland (hosted by the Flaming Chickens 1540) with roughly 30 teams (that’s just a guess, probably not accurate at all). This year our robot was named “Moose,” though I suggested the name that was second most popular, “Mantis,” because of the way the intake moved. It got us into finals and helped us place second, being beaten by Mean Machine (2471) with their impossible-to-beat strategy. For this competition, I started by just doing mechanical because it was very easy to ask what people needed me to do. Near the end of build season however, I joined Media and (after the competition) business because the 2 subteams are so integrated with each other. Our robot picked up wide PVC tubes and deposited them (3 at a time) into totes that were raised off of the ground. Attached is my picture of Moose from when I was on media.
