Attendance

It is important for your child to be at school between 8:15-8:25. Our class instruction begins promptly at 8:25. When your child arrives late, he/she will miss either part of the instructional time or other directions for activities. Thanks for your help with this matter.

Social Skills and Community Building
Daily class meetings, based on The Morning Meeting Book by Roxann Kriete and The Caring Classrooms Curriculum, both 4j adoptions. Good stuff!

Homework

Reading: There is no home component, (or homework) during the first 2 weeks of school to allow children time to acclimate to the reading programand to a long day of school as well.  Once we begin Lesson 1 you can look for a home component in your student’s Monday envelope.  This will include spelling words, sight words and vocabulary words on the weekly newsletter as well as a  4 small stories to practice reading.

Reading Homework will be given on Mondays and does NOT need to be returned to class.  Keep all reading stories at home for continued practice.

Nightly reading forms are sent home at the beginning of each month.  Please read at least 10 min. a night and record your minutes on the given sheet.  This reading can include reading homework, reading to self and/or parent reading to student.  Please return these forms at the end of each month.

Math:  A practice page for math will be sent home weekly in the Monday Folder.  This is meant as a very short at home practice and does NOT need to be returned at the end of the week.

Spelling:  Students will have a weekly spelling test on Friday. If there is no school on Friday, the test will be given on Thursday.
