Hi Everyone,

If you’re reading this on Sunday, don’t forget about the Holt Fundraiser at MOD Pizza on Coburg Road today 10:30-10:00!

Twelve items of note for this week:

• REMINDER: Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) Feedback – For both classified and licensed staff, if you haven’t already, be sure to share your thoughts on the Staff Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) Check-in and Feedback Survey. What went well? What should change? Share your thoughts about the amount of synchronous and asynchronous time. Let the decision makers know what would make things better. If you happen to also be a 4J parent, you can provide feedback on the 4J Distance Learning Feedback (Parent Survey).

• UPDATE: PD/PLC Planning – Due to the new metrics, downtown is holding off on PLC development. They are not saying goodbye, but will move training to late winter/early spring. I’m taking these Wednesday meetings off the calendar through winter break. This also applied to Data Team plans, which are also postponed.

• REMINDER: Math Unit Scope & Sequence – If it got lost in the flurry of fall emails and Google links, linked her is the Elementary Learning Hub, where you can find the Scope & Sequence for Math during CDL. Just click on Your Grade Level > Math > 2020-2021 Scope & Sequence. There are loads of other resources here if you haven’t looked for a while. You do need to be logged onto your 4J Google account to view the webpage.

• REMINDER: ELA Rostering (RazPlus, Newsela, Lailio) – Another email of note that came out a few weeks ago, but may have gotten lost in the shuffle is the one linked here for ELA Rostering Directions of RazPlus, Nuwslea, and Lalilo.

• Report Cards – Guidance will be coming for the report card and what it will look like at the end of the semester. A committee is meeting this week to crosswalk the priority standards and the current elementary report card. Stay turned!

• Attendance Autodialer – If you should happen to hear from families, the district attendance autodialer is starting Monday, where any student with an absence from the prior week will get a call.

• Staff Meeting Follow-Ups – Two items I said I’d share from last week’s Staff Meeting:

• Synergy Student Contact Log Directions – Linked here are the directions for the Synergy Student Contact Log Directions for TeacherVUE.

• 4J Instructional Framework – Okay, I was supposed to share this two weeks ago, but linked here is the 4J Instructional Framework. If you’re not familiar with the framework, it is largely based on a multiyear research effort at the University of Washington. 4J’s twist was to add some equity components that were missing from the original rubric.

• Staff iPad Back-Up – Meraki, the management system used for district owned iPads, is changing over to new system. To make sure you don’t lose anything, such as photos or notes, staff should make sure you’ve backed up everything. The timeline for the changeover is a ways out, but Brian and I wanted to give people a heads up now.

• District Library Lowdown – If you’re interested, linked here is the latest post on The Library Lowdown from 4J District Librarian, Amy Page, which includes info on curbside library book check out, virtual OBOB for 3-5 students, and a new choice board on the 4J Virtual Library.

• SSD November Newsletter – If you’re interested, linked here is the November Student Services Department (SSD) Newsletter that was sent to SSD licensed staff and principals. An archive of past newsletter can also be found on the main page of the 4J SpEd Procedure Manual website.

• How to Make the Most of Student Feedback During Distance Learning – It’s harder to read a class when students are learning at home, so teachers need to explicitly ask for feedback. See the Edutopia Article for 5 tips on how to give and get feedback during CDL.

• Schedule of Upcoming Events – See the Holt Staff Calendar for future events, but here are the events of note for the next two weeks:
