Week of April 23, 2018

April 22nd, 2018

Dear Staff,

Wow! April 20, 2018 was a good day for our school. So much community and self actualization for our school. It was so amazing to see us work together and build this environment juntos!  In the week ahead we have another awesome group of employees to recognize,  the office administrative staff. Please take a moment to thank Ingrid Quirke, Yasmin Marquez, and MariCarmen McFadden.   They all are amazing professionals that make our school hum. Administrative Professionals Day is April 25, 2018.

Here are some items of note:

Strings Academy Next Year –  Eugene-Springfield Youth Orchestras (ESYO) will be stopping services for us next year unless we come up with some funds for the program. We need to come up with 5000.00 to pay the salary of the teacher and for the instrument rentals. The main expense is paying the teacher, which is about $5,000 a year. I’m also thinking I may write an EEF grant for the program, although since it’s a lot of money for a smaller group of kids, Site Council will likely rank it lower on our list of grant priorities. If you have other ideas on how to fund this valuable program, let me know.  Music is a key cultural component of our school.

• Job Expo Update – We were unable to fill our 1st grade position internal with the Expo process.  This means we will go external.  Please spread the word among your teacher friends that are bilingual.  We need to fill this position and I hope to do so soon.  I will be accessing the immersion pool on Monday to see who has applied to be in our DLI program.

May 4th Math PD Day – Not this Friday, but next Friday is a 4J Math Professional Development Day. Jaimee Massie sent the linked May 4th PD Day Flyer with details. For licensed staff, teachers grades 3-5 and Title/SPED teachers will meet 8:00-11:15 at Holt, and teachers grades K-2 will meet 12:00-3:15 at Holt. For classified staff, there will be an EA Extravaganza this same morning. Details on that event are coming soon.  This is 3.5 hours of PD for teachers.  The remaining part of the day is lunch and planning time in our building.  Classified staff should adjust their schedule to make it to the 3.5 hours of PD in the Morning at the Ed Center.
