Replacing A Chain
Tools Needed:
- Chain Breaker Tool
- New Chain
Tips:
- Shift the chain to the smallest gear in the back of the bike if you can. You will be able to shift the gear with the shifter on the left handle bar. This will push the chain farthest away from the bike and give you the most room.
- Our chains do not have a quick link. You will need to use the chain breaker tool to remove old chain and install the new one. Fast forward the video to 1:10.
- Wind the chain tool slowly. You do not want to force it. Forcing the chain tool might break it.
- Once you get the chain off the bike, make sure you stretch the old chain and the new chain on a flat surface (table) to determine the correct length.
- Count the links to make sure you get the correct length. Make sure the two ends of your chain are different before you break the chain.
- Fast forward to 3:32 for reattaching the new chain. Start by installing the new chain in the back. Thread the chain around the cassette, then over the top of the new jockey wheel, then around the bottom jockey wheel
- To reattach the chain, put the thin end of the pin first. Use the chain tool to push the pin into the chain. It might be stiff. Wind the chain tool slowly. Once the pin is flush with either end of the chain, you are finished.
