iPad expectations and care

Cal Young Student iPad use expectations and care

We are extremely fortunate to have an iPad for every student at Cal Young, please read the expectations below regarding the use and care of your iPad as the overall goal of the iPads is to facilitate learning in your classes at CYMS.

1) iPads should only go home if students need them for homework. iPads must be at school and CHARGED for work in their classes every day. There are no loaner iPads. Students not having charged iPads or leave them at home should receive a strike and consequence of not being allowed to take them home for the remainder of the week. Names will be emailed to Mr. Schiff.  He and cart managers will enforce that iPads are back on carts and not going home for those students. Students will still have use of their iPad during the day.

2) Breakage, loss, any other issues need to be reported immediately to a teacher, Schiff, and/or Geoff Henderson. No loaner iPads – students are responsible for the care of their assigned iPads.

3) Keyboards are to remain attached to iPads at all times unless iPad is being used for photos. This is a safety and EQ issue so keyboards do not get broken.

4) iPads are 4j property. They are to be used for school purposes. Students may not download apps or alter the “CY apps image”. Students need to know that their iPads can be checked at any time by teachers and/or admin. If a teacher suspects inappropriate use, admin and Schiff need to be advised immediately.

5) Warnings for inappropriate use/misuse of iPads will to be noted on the Strikes and Warning sheets with a date and teacher/staff initials – comments included if needed. Strikes will be given for repeated warnings (2 is plenty), inappropriate use including careless or deliberate mishandling, accessing inappropriate websites, playing games, video watching, or other off task behavior. Three strikes, and students meet with admin and consequences can include restricted use, loss of use, parent involvement. This is similar to a major referral.
