Dear Families,

Hope you had a great weekend!  I was at the coast running a half marathon! So super short and sweet newsletter today.

Lots coming home in your child’s Monday Mailers today.  Please be on the look out for:

  • your conference confirmation or sign up if you haven’t yet signed up
  • your child’s weekly behavior report. Celebrate if your child has all green, blue or purple. That means s/he was making great choices, good choices or were ready to learn.  If s/he had yellow or orange, it means they needed a lot of extra help or reminders from teachers or peers to be safe, respectful and responsible. Please talk about it and come up with a plan.  Let them know what your expectations are for school.  They are here to learn, work hard, and be good friends.
  • Holtober Fest is this Friday. There’s a green order form for tickets. It’s much easier to buy these ahead of time.
  • SMART reading permission slips are in for some students who would benefit from extra reading support. Please sign and return ASAP
  • Scholastic Book orders are available.  If you’d like to order books please return forms and checks for orders by Friday.  I am sorry but not allowed to accept cash.
  • HFW and spelling words

Our field trip to Herrick’s Farm is tomorrow afternoon.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately.  S/he may bring boots to wear on the field trip.  We will each get a pumpkin, an apple and a gourd.  There is no cost for this field trip or any others!  Funds for such trips were raised at last year’s Jog-a-Thon.

This week:

Math:  Geometry unit.  We are correctly naming shapes (hexagons, trapezoids, rhombus, triangle and parallelogram) and describing their attributes.

Reading: Practicing our short u words (fun, tub) as we read fantasy stories and discuss the story elements (characters, setting and plot)

Writing:  Writing stories about our field trip and  animals we like.  Using adjectives to “spice up’ our writing.

Science:  Pumpkins and leaves

Social Studies:  Strategies on dealing with strong feelings.  Learning out to patiently wait turn and not interrupt.

Thanks so much,

Leah
