Week 8 Newsletter: October 26-28

Dear Families,

I’m looking forward to meeting with you for conferences this week.  If you have any change in schedule, please contact the office to reschedule.  My schedule is completely full Wednesday.  There’s more flexibility on Thursday.  It’s very difficult to reschedule these on different days so I really hope you all can make your appointments.  Feel free to bring your child(ren) if necessary.  They can play on my carpet area with toys or sit on laps. 🙂

Please complete the Conference Reflection paper with your child and return it ASAP.  It will help guide our conference conversations and set goals for your child.  Please be ready with any questions or concerns. about your child or his/her school experience.

Last week I introduced and sent home log in information for IXL.  To simplify matters we’ve changed student’s username to be the same as his/her school one.  Please refer to purple paper that looks like a computer keyboard rather than IXL specific username I sent last week. Sorry for the confusion.  I will try to make out and send new log in forms.

MATH:  It’s a review and assessment week.  We will also do pumpkin themed math.

READING:  It’s a review and assessment week.  Additionally we will be reading non-fiction stories about pumpkins, bones, and spiders.

WRITING:  Students will complete a write sample and write a thank you to Herrick’s Farm.  We will work on our proofreading skills.

SCIENCE:  Scientific process and experiement on which liquid dissolves pumpkins faster.

HOMEWORK:  Please practice kindergarten and unit 1 sight words with your child.  They really need to know these.  There are no new words this week.  CIRCLE, TRIANGLE and RHOMBUS reading groups should read their little paper books.  They are great because they include our sound of the week and sight words.  Practice until they can read them fluently.  Everyone should read to and/or have your child read to you for 15-20 minutes at least 5 times a week.  Color in October reading calendar.  If you have lost or misplaced yours, here’s a link to a new one.  Calendars due this Wednesday.  Students who turn them in earn a FREE new book and a personal size pizza!

SAVE THE DATES!

10/27 Field trip to Herrick’s Farm and Pumpkin Patch.  It will likely be muddy, cold and possibly wet.  Please dress your kiddo appropriately.  Make sure that s/he has long pants, long sleeves and a coat.  Tennis shoes that can get dirty or boots would be helpful.  It is a PE day so if your child wears boots, s/he will want a pair of tennis shoes to change into.

We have the maximum number of chaperones. Thank you! Those chaperones will need to pay $1 to Herrick’s and meet us at school at 8:45 am.  Chaperones can take the bus with us or drive themselves there. We leave school at 9 am.  We will be back at school at 11 am for lunch.
