Grading: (For Spanish Immersion)

0 – No evidence (A score of zero is only assigned if the assignment is never turned in)

1 – Beginning

2 – Emerging

3 – Nearly Proficient

4 – Proficient

5 – Highly Proficient/ Exceeds

Skills that students will be graded on are based on the 6th grade standards. On the report card the proficiency score will transfer into a letter grade so that GPA’s will be what you are used to.

Late Work:

I believe that work should be turned in on time (as is required in most professions in the real world) but I understand that students are still learning this skill. I do accept late work because I am grading the students on their proficiency in different skills, which should be separate from their ability to complete things on time. Students will have until the end of the trimester to turn in missing work.

Retakes

I will allow students one retake per major assessment if they receive a score below proficiency (4 on the skill based proficiency scale). The maximum score a student can get on a retake assessment is a 4.

Students can also redo any practice assignments that they do not receive a 5 on. I encourage them to take advantage of this redo policy. We can learn so much from going back and fixing our mistakes.

It is the student’s responsibility to check the assignment folder if they are absent.

Homework:

There will not be a lot of assigned homework outside of class. Students may have extra work if they were unable to finish in class. There will also be the occasional quiz or test to study for throughout the year. Students are encouraged to always be reading a book of their choice at home in both English and Spanish, which will be reflected through a reading workshop packet completed every five to six weeks, reading conferences and book talks.
