Social Studies

We cover three main topics in Social Studies throughout the year. We will start by learning all about the regions of Oregon, their natural resources, and the geography of each area. There are many projects involved in this unit and it culminates with us making salt dough maps of Oregon! Then we move on to the Oregon Trail. Each student will assume a new identity as a pioneer traveling west on the Oregon Trail. As they travel and learn about the trail, they will write journal entries that will later be read in our 4th grade musical – Wagon’s Ho! We end the year by studying Oregon government and travel to the State Capitol for a tour.
