Enter the following in the address bar: about:config
Search for “gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost” -> double-click it to set it as “true”
Click on Tool -> Web Developer -> Scratchpad
Paste the following into the window that opens: javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler(“mailto”,”https://mail.4j.lane.edu/?view=compose&to=%s”,”Zimbra”);
If you get “Exception: illegal character” when you try to paste in the scratchpad, it is because the quotation marks are being automatically converted to curly quotes. After pasting the text into the scratchpad, delete and re-type each quotation mark.
Click menu: Execute -> Run
In the main Firefox window, you will see a dropdown request below the menu bar. Click yes to allow the addition of Zimbra links.
Open Firefox Menu -> Preferences -> Applications
Find ‘mailto’
In the mailto dropdown box, for Content Type, select “Zimbra” for the Action
Once complete, enter about:config in the address bar again
Set gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost to “false” with a double-click.
Mailto links or email links from websites should now open in Zimbra. Make sure you are logged in to Zimbra before clicking on the mail link, then a new email will open with the address in the To: line.
