Because we are practicing our Close Reading skills, Ms. Karotko and I decided to take a load off of your science homework by incorporating it into our class instead of you having to read it by yourself for homework in science. Isn’t that nice of us!?

Unfortunately, we do not have an electronic copy of the assignment, so you will need to obtain that from either me or Mrs. Karotko.

  1. Record the essential question in the Essential Question section of your Focus Notes.
    • How do models help with understanding scientific principles?
  2. Record the three focus questions in the Questions section of the Focus Notes.
    • What are models?
    • Why do scientist revise models?
  3. Read the article and highlight answers to the three focus questions. Circle and define any unknown vocabulary.
  4. After completing step 3, go back through the article again, but this time, rewrite your highlighted answers in your own words in the “notes” section of your focused notes.
  5. Using your notes, answer the Essential Question in the PACE format.  You may type your PACE or hand write it on a separate paper.  Please be sure to staple the PACE to the Close Reading handout.
  6. Turn in!
