Our laptops wipe everything from them when students shut them down.  Although this is a good thing so that others don’t access information that belongs to other students, it does make it difficult to make projects that take multiple sessions to complete when working in iMovie.

Using “Files1” to save your information (this is our school district server):

  1. Click “Files1” and sign in with your unique username and password (students, this is the same as your gdocs sign in information)
  2. Open your “Finder” menu and click on the “Files1” folder in the left hand menu.  Find and select your folder – it should be named as your userid name.
  3. Create a new folder within that folder and name it (for this project, you could call it “300 year crunch”).
  4. Now open a second “Finder” menu (You can do this by clicking “command” and “n” at the same time).
  5. Click “Guest” on the left column of your Finder menu
  6. Click “Movies”  within the “Guest” File
  7. Select “imovie library” and “imovie theater” and drag it into your new folder you created in the other “finder” window .  This will save any work you do in imovie so that you may access it next time you want to work on the project.
  8. The next time you work on the project, simply drag the “imovie library” and “imovie theater” onto the desktop of your computer.  Once you open imovie, you may access those files.

Re-opening the file:

  1. Sign in to your “files1” folder.
  2. Drag the “iMovie library” from your “files1” file onto your desktop.
  3. Open “iMovie”.
  4. Click “file” in the menu at the top.
  5. Go to “open library” in the drop down menu and select “other”
  6. A new window will open that asks you which library you would like to open. Select the “locate” button in the bottom left of that window.
  7. “Finder” will open and allow you to select “desktop” in the left menu. From there, find your iMovie Library that you dragged to it, select it, and click “open”.
  8. This will now bring you back to using “iMovie”.
  9. You may have to click “projects” in the upper left of the iMovie window. That will bring you back to the screen that allows you to select projects.  Click on your project and you will be able to go back into it and continue to edit.

Upload and share with your teacher on google docs:

  1. Save your mp4 (trailer) to your desktop
  2. Sign into google docs
  3. click “new”
  4. choose “file upload” from the drop down menu
  5. Select your trailer from the finder that pops up and click “open”
  6. Once your file has uploaded, share with your teacher (quinn_p or steeves_t)
