Electronics in Class – Phones and iPads: READ!

All electronics are to be off and away when entering Rooms 212 and 213. No exceptions. Phones in pockets, or binders, and iPads off and placed in the center of quad tables at the start of class, and until instruction is given to use them.

Earbuds and headphones are out of sight, tucked away and/or in pockets and binders unless instruction is given to have them out. No exceptions.

Students will review this at the beginning of the term. They will have ONE warning:

Phones/earbuds put in their locker on first warning. Any infractions past that will result in a referral and phone/earbuds being delivered to the office.

iPad misuse on first warning is a reminder. Any infractions past that results in a strike. Repeated misuse after 3 strikes results in restricted use or loss of privileges.

6th Graders – Winter term 2017

Make sure you have your agenda planners, binders, and iPads daily. You will be using your files1 server daily as well – you will organize it by classes for the current calendar year.

All assignments will be uploaded and presented on your ePortfolio for grading and feedback. Missing work will not be graded, and impact your class grade – late work will be accepted when it is completed and presented on your ePortfolios. It is your responsibility to tell me when you have late work that needs to graded.

Welcome to Winter Term 2016

Fall term is old news, bring on Winter term! Make sure you have your iPad synced to 4J Secure and your email! Come to class prepared with materials, and familiarize yourselves with the online course syllabus  for classes you are taking.

Assignments, classwork, and homework are updated daily and weekly on the in-class Agenda board, and here online. Use your agenda!

It’s A New School Year! Welcome 2016-17!

I’m excited about the new school year! I can’t wait to welcome back returning 7th and 8th graders, and meet the new incoming 6th grade class.

With everyone refreshed from summer break, I’m looking forward to a great start to the year. Be sure to check in regularly on my blog for timely information, events, and updates.

Syllabi and assignments for all of my courses are located under the “Courses” drop down menu. It’s important to familiarize yourself with course information for assignment descriptions, examples, and grading. Actual assignment due dates are current on my classroom whiteboard agenda. Course pages show assignment targets, these can change, so always check the whiteboard agenda!

CY Showcase Tonight – 2.24.16!

I’m looking forward to parents and community members coming through my labs tonight to check out the awesome work students are doing here at Cal Young.

– See how students prep and produce the live broadcast for the daily announcements in our broadcast studio.

– Watch 3D design and printing take place in the “Maker” section of our tech lab – 6 3D printer stations will be printing student work, and there will be student guides to demonstrate the design and printing aspect of a 3D production environment.

– The CY Media Pros will be set up to show their commercial media production work for past and current work in my adjoining lab space – check out the giant MondoPad they use for work flow and production evaluation. Some of the CY Pros will be on hand to discuss their work.

All students who take classes in the tech lab are welcome to grab a laptop and show off their work to parents and friends!

Welcome to the New School Year!

Use my instructional blog to view assignments and resources for all of my classes. Students will need to use this site to stay current with course work, and find helpful materials and instruction for how to use their ePortfolios.

6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will find resources for iPad instruction in the iPad menu section.

Spirited Away – Enjoy and Learn Through Film

All of my classes will be watching Spirited Away and engaging in course specific activities to start the new term. Click below on the link to Spirited Away resources.

Common Core Standards – Humor

The following video was shared by CY’s counselor, and one that fits well with managing directives from the district, state, and feds. Enjoy.
