We will also read the first part of the Epic of Gilgamesh together, and talk about some of the interesting elements of reading and translating an ancient epic, esp. how the art of oral storytelling intersects with the art of written storytelling (esp. in the use of repetition). Homework: Read through Book II in The Epic of Gilgamesh, we will start in class, you should finish. You have my permission to skim the parts where it repeats itself in full (this will reduce the amount of reading you need to do tonight).

Class 2: We will continue reading The Epic of Gilgamesh aloud together, and we will continue our study of The Epic of Gilgamesh with partner work in response to questions about the content and style of the work.

Homework: Finish The Epic of Gilgamesh through book 8, again, you have my permission to skim when it repeats itself in full, and you won’t have this much reading if you come to class, because we will continue to read it together.

Class 3: Continue reading The Epic of Gilgamesh and begin scratch art. Pre-plan with a sketch and then use scratch art paper to draw a scene from the Epic, with a cuneiform or other lined-figure type of border.

Homework: Finish reading The Epic of Gilgamesh for next class

Class 4: Epic of Gilgamesh final quiz and Art.

Class 5: Finish up Art Assignment, and intro Sufi Poetry.

Class 6 and 7 : Sufi Poetry Prep for Persepolis
