All students wanting to be on next year’s yearbook staff please get your applications in to Ms. Nelson sometime today.
There is a dance clinic for all interested 8th graders at Sheldon high school. This clinic will be for students grades 8-11. Saturday, May 3 9:00-noon in the Sheldon Gym. This clinic is encouraged for all of you interested in trying out for the Sheldon Dance Team. Hope to see you there!

Just a reminder to all eighth graders, you do not want to be absent this tomorrow, May 1st. That is the day the eighth grade group picture will be taken. The picture is at 10:00. If you need a order form there is extras available in the front office.

The 2008 Young Readers’ Choice Awards are final after the votes in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and British Columbia were counted. The winners are:
Junior Division – A DOG’S LIFE by Ann Martin
Intermediate Division – THE LIGHTNING THIEF by Rick Riordan
Senior Division – PEACHES by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Yearbook applications are due this Thursday to Ms. Nelson. Be sure to get your teacher recommendations taken care of.
Gambling can be a problem when you risk losing something of value. This year, students in Vim Vigor and Victuals classes participated in a poster contest to help develop awareness. Twelve kids from the state of Oregon won and their posters will be in a 2009 calendar. Aditi Sharma was a winner and in addition to her poster being displayed in the calendar she was given a $25 gift card. Other honorable mentions from the state of Oregon top 25: Kara Cheung, Madison Dunn, and Taylor Noll. The top 10 in Lane County were: Allie Reiling, Cody Astley, Ashley Gonzalez and Joel Inkenbradt. Allie Huffman received an “Outstanding message and creativity” award. Each of these kids received a $10 gift card. Every student who entered the contest received a $5 gift card and if you have not yet received yours please see Ms. Kerr-Daly.

The Smart Routes to School Spring Campaign starts on Monday!!!!
Join us for the ” Brake For Kids” opening event on Monday April 28th. The walk will start at 8:00 AM in the parking lot of the Methodist Church on the corner of Cal Young and Oakway Road. The walk will
help us start our four week campaign that encourages walking, biking, skating, carpools, and using the bus to or from school. Sheldon athletes have been invited to walk with use along our April 28th route to school.
Any student attending the Monday AM walk to school will be given a special coupon as well as a standard ticket. Make sure you place your special coupon in the SHELDON BOX in the office. The winners will be drawn Monday at lunchtime. The special coupon prize is 5 brand new Sheldon HS T-shirts!
Weekly drawings will be held during the month of May for individual prizes as well as family prizes for carpools.

Don’t forget 8th graders you need to turn in your money and permission slips for the end of the year party!

This week your M&M’s can earn you free food. We will draw 10 names from each jar on Thursday afternoon and those who are selected will receive a certificate for $1.50 to use in the cafeteria. Earn M&M’s and get them in the jar!
Our Monroe Parent Organization wants to let you know that effective May 1, the Monroe sweatshirts will be $25.00 each.

Sheldon Dance Team Tryout Information Meetings will be held Friday, April 25th OR Tuesday, April 29th in the Sheldon Cafeteria at 4:00 P.M. Anyone interested in trying out for the Sheldon Dance Team should attend one of these meetings to get some more information.

The 2008 Championship Sheldon Dance Team is going to host a Dance Clinic for Monroe students right here at Monroe! The Dance Clinic will be after school in the cafeteria on Tuesday, April 22nd from 4:00 – 6:00. It is open to all monroe students grades 6-8, both male and female. Any student who enjoys dancing or is interested in seeing what dance team is all about is invited to attend. Please pick up a flyer in the office. We hope to see you there!
