Narrative Performance Task

FINISH THE STORY

Follow these directions:

1. Read this entire story prompt assignment.  

2. Read the 2 sources in the packet “Sources for Performance Task”, 

mark the text ( highlight or underline) for important 5 + details you could use in your story. 

3.Write what happened next according to the prompt below

4. You must use a detail from each of the two sources in your story. These need to be paraphrased and bolded in your final.

5. Type on Google Docs, Font 14-16.

6. Finally, re-read your typed story – look to make improvements after re-checking the criteria below. Share with your teacher.

Story Prompt:  You are assigned to write a story that is multiple paragraphs long (200-500 words).  In your story: A person has just received a new robot. He/She is excited to turn it on and see how it works. Write a story about what happens next…

Criteria – what you need!

Use 3rd person He/she, NOT 1st person I/me/my

An Original Title

A simile or a metaphor (Figurative Language) – (at least one -underline this in your story).

For dialogue –  indent, use quotation marks and capitalize.

Conventions:  use punctuation correctly, and spell check.

You must also turn in: Highlighted Source packet with your name.

 

Informative Performance Task

Task 1: Complete all reading and response material for three sources (30 points).

Source 1 – Book with Reading Guide

Source 2 – Online Reading with Two-Column Notes

Source 3 – Article with Response Sheet

Task 2: The following 3 questions need to be answered in formal response (30 points).

When you answer, you need to cite 2 of the sources from Task 1 in each  response.  You do this by clearly stating which source you got the information from.  For example; “In source 2, it states that…” or “In source 1, the author explains…”

Each answer needs a topic sentence and supporting details.  Paragraphs should be at least 30 words in length.

Q1 – Explain the characteristics of cells, and give a specific example.

Q2 – Explain the role of bacteria and give a specific example.

Q3 – Explain how infectious diseases and germs can be transmitted and what can be done to avoid transmission.

Task 3: (EXTENSION) Research Paper – Choose an infectious disease from the list and use Wikipedia and one other site to learn about it – your focus can be either historic or current. (Extra Credit – 60 points)

Your paper should be titled “Cells, Germs, Bacteria, and (disease you researched)”  It should include a paragraph on each of the following topics:

Prognosis

Treatment and Prevention

Reflection on Information (Which sites you used, and what was your main takeaway from your research).
