Life Science Scientific Principles:
1. Food contains one or more of these substances: protein, fat, and carbohydrates (sugar/starch).
2. Food provides energy and building materials to organisms.
3. Animals get their food from eating other animals and/or plants. Plants make their own food by using sunlight and water.
4. Organisms in a food web are related through producer/consumer and predator/prey relationships.
5. In an ecosystem, the size of a population is partially controlled by the availability of food.
6. Organisms compete for resources like food, space, and water. If there is not enough of a resource, the population will decrease.
