History: Great Neck used to be Menhaden-Ock, and it became popular for the vast amount of fish in the bay. European settlers came and developed Menhaden-Ock into Menhaden Neck in 1640s. In the 1670s, it became the Great Neck. It became the New York and Flushing Railroad, so it was used to go back and forth from farm village to commuter town.
