Buchenwald: Camp liberated by U.S

BUCHENWALD: On April 11, 1945, in expectation of liberation, starved and emaciated prisoners stormed the watchtowers, seizing control of the camp. Later that afternoon, US forces entered Buchenwald. Soldiers from the 6th Armored Division, part of the Third Army, found more than 21,000 people in the camp. They were rushes to hospitals around Europe. This is the first time many prisoners have looked at themselves for years. As they examine their unfamiliar figures they let out a sigh of relief for the years of freedom ahead. Everyday they wake up thinking they are still in the dreaded camp, but a moment of happiness rushes over them realizing the are not.
