Buchenwald: Camp liberated by U.S

BUCHENWALD: On April 11, 1945, in expectation of liberation, starved and emaciated prisoners stormed the watchtowers, seizing control of the camp. Later that afternoon, US forces entered Buchenwald. Soldiers from the 6th Armored Division, part of the Third Army, found more than 21,000 people in the camp. They were rushes to hospitals around Europe. This is the first time many prisoners have looked at themselves for years. As they examine their unfamiliar figures they let out a sigh of relief for the years of freedom ahead. Everyday they wake up thinking they are still in the dreaded camp, but a moment of happiness rushes over them realizing the are not.

AUSCHWITZ CAMP: New Inmates Arrive

AUSCHWITZ: New inmates arrive and cause a stir. A rumor had been circulating the guards about inmates lying about their age when asked upon arrival. It is said that new arrivals are let off of the trains, veteran inmates yell from behind the fence suggested age for best survival through inspection. This worries authorities because the number of inmates has been increasing steadily. Kapos insure though that this will not happen for very much longer because they will be implementing a new route to the entrance. What they are more worried about is the increasing number of inmates getting away with gold crowns and other valuable items hidden in their mouths. There has been several instances of fighting between inmates based on the refusal to give up their precious gold crown. Guards turn the other way from this because this just means less work for them. A good tip for new inmates, keep the crown for as long as you can and trade it for something that will benefit you. Some options for this are, shoes, shoelaces, extra rations, and more blankets. Better shoes allow for more foot protection from things on the floor of your work space, and the shoes will wear out quickly, so good shoe laces and shoes are important. Food is scarce, so extra rations, are self explanatory.

BUNA CAMP: Boy sticks his nose where it doesn’t belong, faces consequences.

Buna: In mid afternoon every inmate was summoned back to their block. Everyone obeyed. Except a young jewish boy who decided to take a quick look around. As he stumbled into a somewhat seeming abandoned warehouse he noticed a sound of movement in a room near bye. As he peaked into the room he saw Kapo Idek fooling around with a young Polish girl. He tried to hide his laughter but one slipped out. He was sworn that revenge would come to him very soon. The young boys day came for sure when everyone was summoned to the courtyard to watch this young boy get whipped for his wrong doings. He was whipped 25 times. As the whipping continued you could see him slowly getting numb to the crack of the whip against his skin. As he walked away authority came to give him one last warning, unknown at the time to onlookers. Maybe people will think twice before getting into someone else’s business.
