2. Read the Emancipation Proclamation and answer the questions on the back.

Homework: Read pages 189-193 (Jefferson Davis), take a page of notes, then make a chart of similarities and differences between Davis’ and Lincoln’s management of the war. (If you were in class, you have a worksheet. If you were not in class, you can do this on your own paper.) There will likely be a quiz on the material on Thursday.

1) Your group will be assigned a topic from our study of Reason and Logic. You will make a poster of that topic, that clearly illustrates how it works, the fundamental features, the strengths and weaknesses (where applicable), 3 examples, and a large colorful illustration.

Hello! I hope you had a good weekend. Today we will be looking at the rapid series of events that led to the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861.

1. Go get a textbook and look at the electoral map of the 1860 Presidential Election on page 486. What observations can you make from looking at the make. Why did Lincoln win?

2. Turn to page 497 and look at the map of seceding states. Color the map on the sheet of 11 X 17 paper (the one with 4 maps on it). Answer the prompts on the back.

3. Get out the homework.

Compare and Contrast Garrison and Hammond: Using your packets and notes, please compare AND contrast the arguments made by William Lloyd Garrison to the National Anti-Slavery Society in 1833 (Page 146) with those made by James Henry Hammond in a speech to the US Senate in 1858 (page 148 and 149). What is similar about their appeals and arguments about slavery and what is different? You cannot just say that 1 was against slavery and 1 was for slavery. Your response should be in paragraph form, with 1 paragraph detailing the similarities and 1 paragraph detailing differences.
