Picture Day is Friday: Pictures may be ordered at mylifetouch.com Picture Day ID #FO528142Y0
Homework:
Mme Shelli’s Class: This week students have word study homework. Their highlighted words come from misused words on a pretest of commonly misused homophones. Usually, if a child missed one of the homophones on the pretest, they were given the set to practice in homework.
Mme Jana’s Class: Because we only had two homework days last week, last week’s French homework extends into this week. Monday and Tuesday (October 15 &16) night this week will have homework, then we’ll conclude the study this week with a quiz on either Wednesday or Thursday. This vocabulary work reinforces the sound “oi” which is pronounced “wah” like in moi. It is an important vowel blend to recognize and master in French. Here is the homework, just in case: oi Vocab

Mme Jana’s News
FLA (French Language Arts): We begin reading groups this week . There are four groups which will change around a bit as the year advances. Either Victor or I will read with each group each time. We will do reading groups on Mondays and Wednesdays.
We only have four capital letters to master, then we’ll move on to first and last names. Each student will have his own sheet of his first name. Then, there will be no more direct instruction, but they will get daily practice writing in cursive.
We will begin a new “J’observe…” writing activity this week and allow those students who didn’t yet finish, “Une tornade de poisson,” to finish their writing. We will do “J’observe…”every Tuesday and Thursday.
Les sciences: We are reinforcing what it takes to have a complete circuit and distinguishing between an open circuit (un circuit ouvert) and a cloased circuit (un circuit fermé.) Next, we’ll test to find what materials are conductors (les conducteurs) and which are insulators (les isolants.)
Mme Shelli’s News
English Language Arts: We will wrap a unit on traditional tales. This week, students will be reading several Native American myths and legends. They will compare these to other cultures’ myths we’ve studied, looking for similar themes and characters. Next week, we’ll welcome a guest speaker who is a local Native American storyteller.
Math: This week, we will finish a unit on factors and multiples. This week, students will generate and analyze patterns to find features based on their knowledge of factors and multiples. Next week, students will begin multi-digit multiplication strategies (2 &3 digit number multiplication), so it is very important they know their basic multiplication facts of x0 through x10.
