Mme Jana’s News
FLA (French Language Arts): All the Moi! projects are now complete and hanging in the 4th grade stairwell and hallway, so please take a look at your child’s. They’ll go home at parent/teacher conferences.
We are still working away on French reading groups. A few groups will be ready to change to a new book after this week. Spoken French is definitely improving as I see the kids making themselves speak French, and they’re getting reading and writing practice every day as well. We’ve begun conjugating the verb avoir (to have) & we have consequently become aware that few students understand what a subject pronoun, a possessive pronoun, a subject or a verb are, so we’re backtracking a bit. Mme Shelli is going to support us by going over those terms in English next week.
There was a large flub with Tap’Touche (not my fault…totally), so I have to re-enter everyone’s name and code, but I do hope to begin typing this coming week.
Sciences: We are still working on series and parallel circuits! There are 3 investigations, so we’ll be on this one next week as well. A few parents have told me that kids are coming home and talking about circuits, so I’m excited they understand it well enough to share!
Mme Shelli’s News
ELA: We have been reading non-fiction about the geography and climate of Oregon. Students are writing organized paragraphs about their favorite region this week. They will edit, revise, and publish their paragraphs for you to see in the halls during conferences. Next, students will be doing some research about people indigenous to Oregon. This will lead into a writing project where students write 5+ paragraph reports.
Math: We wrap up Learn Zillion Unit 4 this week. You will receive your child’s assessment and workbook for this Unit at conferences. Students are working toward being able to generalize place value understanding for multi-digit numbers, add and subtract using column calculation, and to solve problems with numbers into the millions.
