Mme Jana homework:

We will continue to work with the vocabulary from last week.

Mme Shelli Homework:

Math homework continues for this week. It is yellow and should come to school each day as we correct it together in class. Look for review problems in determining factors, prime & composite numbers as well as review of some of the trickier multiplication facts.

Other important paperwork:

Please be sure to return corrected student profile forms to the office that were sent home last week, if you haven’t already.  Also, please return class contribution forms to the office if you are able to contribute funds for our class school supplies and field trips. Thank you.

Mme Jana’s Class:

Le français:  Every morning, I give the students two incorrect sentences to write into their French journals. They may work together to make the corrections, then we go over them to make sure we get all the errors, and we rewrite the sentence. I will be collecting about a fourth of the journals each week to make sure everyone is on track, using the editing marks correctly, and following through.

This week, I received my copies of “Problèmes de logique 1” and each child has one to keep in his/her desk and work on if prior work is finished. These are logic problems in French and I’ve taught them how to do them by eliminating what cannot be the answer in order to find the answer! They really enjoy them, they add to their thinking and their French vocabulary, and I also have the next two versions ready for those who work ahead.

The “Moi” project is moving along nicely. Many students have finished their art, and have begun writing (in cursive, so it takes a bit), then we put it all together, and you’ll see them decorating our hallways soon.

We have worked through all the lower case (minuscule) letters and have begun the upper case (majuscule), we’ll begin the French typing program (Tap’Touche) once we get through all the letters in cursive.

Les sciences:  We will begin our fall science unit, L’énergie, this week. We will begin with circuits, conductors and innsulators.

I’m still enjoying getting to know your children!

Mme Shelli’s Class:

ELA (English Language Arts): We will read a shared book called My Librarian is a Camel this week as well as several articles about organizations and programs that reach out to communities to make a difference.  You can learn follow along with our reading in the Journeys textbook lesson 3 at home.  Our vocabulary station will be focused on multiple meaning words.  We will also start writing descriptive paragraphs this week.

Math: We continue a unit on multiples and factors to wrap our first Learnzillion unit.  Students will create patterns using a given rule and find features of patterns using their understanding of multiplication.  To help your child at home, please make sure they are very comfortable with their basic multiplication and division facts through 12.  There are many apps to help practice these online, but basic flashcards are great, too.  Students need most practice with x6, x7, x8, x9, x12.  If your child needs more extension in math, check out the games listed on the Math tab at the top of this website.
