Weekly Update #2: Wrapping Up “Reading Like a Historian”

Today, we’re wrapping up our “Reading Like a Historian” unit by designing cover pages in History NB’s to illustrate what has been learned and by finishing up final background notes that will prepare us for the year of studying early American history.

A few important notes:

  1. Grades in Synergy will be updated on a regular basis, however it is taking me some time to read and respond to the almost 180 Snapshot Autobiography projects I received. Since I want to give these adequate time and attention, it will take me a bit longer to get these assessed. As I finish assessing each Snapshot Autobiography, I will input the grade into Synergy. Thank you for your patience!
  2. Next week on a random, rotating basis, I will collect and assess History NB’s. Please double check the official Table of Contents to make sure your NB is organized, neat, complete, and ready to submit by Monday, 9/25.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Weekly Update #1: Welcome to Social Literacy!

Thank you for an awesome start to the school year! I’m really looking forward to re-discovering early American History with you this year while we focus in on the reading, writing, media literacy, and thinking skills that will prepare you for high school and beyond.

For the first 2-3 weeks of Social Literacy, we will create a foundation for the learning we will do this year by considering what it means to read like a historian and the value of exploring multiple perspectives when we investigate a moment in history.

A few important reminders for this first few weeks of class:

  1. Make sure you are making it a habit to bring your binder, iPad, and History NB with you to class every day!
  2. Your CY Social Literacy Syllabus-8 should be placed in the Social Literacy section of your binder for future reference. Your parents will also want to see this before they complete their homework this week!
  3.  A few assignments are due soon…
    1. Student Survey & Goal Setting Bubbles – Due Monday 9/11
    2. Parent Survey – Due Friday 9/15
    3. History NB Cover Design – Due Monday 9/18
    4. Snapshot Autobiography – Due Monday 9/18
