Your school is located in Eugene, Oregon which is near the southern end of the Willamette Valley. The Willamette River flows south to north through Eugene. The McKenzie River flows near the eastern and northern sides of Eugene. The soil is very rich here, meaning it is good for growing things. This is because long ago there were no dams on our nearby rivers and the land was often flooded after it rained. When a flood ended it left behind a layer of rich soil.
