*If packing date/times do not work for teachers, please contact Allan.

• Packing Volunteers – If any non-classroom staff (licensed or classified) are able to help with packing, please sign-up on the linked Student Belongings Distribution Sign-Up. If teachers would like help packing, contact Allan or contact folks who have signed up on the sheet directly.

• Packing Directions – Here’s the plan for packing.

1.  Staff arrive at designated times, sign-in, sanitize hands, report to assigned room.
2.  Gloves are to be worn at all times during the packing process and will be in the office.
3.  UPDATED: Student items are packed in 33×40 plastic bag liners and labeled will be pre-made AVERY labels with last name, first name, and teacher and/or grade. Labels are in teacher mailboxes.
4.  Masks are optional during the packing process, but must be worn during the distribution process. If you do not have your own mask, one will be provided for you, but let Allan know ahead of time so we can make sure we have enough on hand.
5.  Staff should maintain social distance of 6-feet apart at all times. There is a maximum of two people in a classroom at any given time.
6.  UPDATED: Crystal will transport bagged items to the gym where they will be alphabetical by classroom (or teachers may transport, if you’d like).
7.  NEW: Any library books left in the classroom should be returned to the library drop box.
8.  NEW: Any specialists (SPED, Title, ELL, Music/PE, etc.) who have student belongings should return them to the classroom teachers.
9. Staff should only use the office restrooms and not other building restrooms.
10. Staff will sign-out and exit through the front door only.

*If there are community supplies that are shared by the whole class, distribute among students after all personal items are packed. This may include, pencils, pens, crayons, rulers, glue/glue sticks, scissors, etc.

• Distribution Volunteers – If you’re able to help with distribute student belonging on Tuesday and/or Wednesday, please sign-up on the linked Student Belongings Distribution Sign-Up.

• Distribution Days Logistics – We’ll run distribution of student belongings similar to how we did iPad distribution, staging in the gym with the bags in alphabetical order by classroom and families picking up by student last name. One change that we’ll allow ALL last names to come during lunch distribution, which is what unofficially happened when we gave out iPads. All staff interacting with families or handling the bags MUST wear both gloves and a mask at all times.

• Additional Information – Three additional items of note:

• Nutrition Services has ice cream sandwich boxes of six to we can hand out to families at pickup. There are plenty for all families and Nutrition Services does not want them going to waste.
• The process for staff to collect their personal belongings and closing out the school year will occur in Phases II and III and will follow after this process has been completed.
• If you’re interested, here are the Packing Guidelines principals were sent.

• April PTO Meeting, Wednesday @8:00PM – The PTO is planning to hold a meeting Wednesday, April 29th at 8:00PM via Zoom if any staff are able to attend. See Friday’s Howard Happenings email for the meeting link and details (or email me directly).

• ACE Award Nominations: Due April 30– ACE Award Nominations were extended through the end of this month. If you’d like to support our volunteer gardener, Bruce Campbell, with a nomination in the Volunteer category, you can use or adapt this Volunteer Seesaw Lesson Ashley shared with me to support Bruce’s nomination. Here’s the link to the nomination form: http://tinyurl.com/4JACE2020

• 2020-20201 Staffing Updates – You may have notice Howard’s vacancies changed in the Job Expo list from a 1st vacancy to two 4th grade vacancies, which is because Justine is moving back to 1st grade for next year, joining Jessy and Jasmine. Our current expo vacancies are one Kindergarten position, two 4th grade, and one 5th grade.

• REPEAT: Teachers Pay Teachers School Access – Educator Relief Program – Howard now has a subscription to TpT School Access through June 30th, which gives teachers access to a library of resources for immediate use for the remainder of the school year. We have a total of 160 resource licenses, which means teachers should access no more than 4 resources each (4.7 exactly, but share with your friends if you don’t want to use your 4.7 TpT resources). You can view how many resource licenses are left on the TpT School Activity webpage. Watch for an email from TpT for how to activate your account and see this generic Welcome Letter for details.

• ESD Paper Packets Clarification – Our goal is to keep families connected through online learning, so try not to offer paper packets as an option. If a family does choose paper packets over online distance learning, classroom teachers and/or case managers should make contact at least once a week to check in and see if parents need any help or assistance. Packets can be found on the 4J Distance Learning for All website.

• Are Seesaw lessons in library private? – This question was asked at a Zoom Staff Meeting in regards to posting Zoom Class Meeting links. Justin Huntley told me anything you post in Seesaw and save to YOUR library is private. If you save a lesson to the district library, then it is NOT private an available to anyone with a 4J Seesaw account.

• Attendance Reminder (enter each Friday, not earlier) – Classroom teachers, be sure to enter attendance every Friday by 4:00. It was asked at the staff meeting if this can be recorded earlier, but according to the Revised Attendance Recording during Distance Learning for All Guidelines, attendance is to be recorded on the last day of each week before 4:00. If a student did an assignment, attended a Zoom, messaged you, responded to anything on Seesaw, a parent/guardian made contact, or any other form of contact, including contact with specialists (PE, Music, Title, SPED, ELL, etc.), then that student is marked present.

• Optional Staff Meeting Reschedule, Thursdays at 12:30 – With weekly Grade Level/Intervention Meetings, it we will move the Optional Weekly Staff Meeting to 12:30 on Thursdays. In my announcements email is the URL, Meeting ID, and Password.

• Eugene 4J District Librarian Support – Amy Page, the 4J District Library wants staff to know they can come to her Tech Help Sessions and email her with questions. See her previous emails for the meeting links.

• Resetting Student iPads – For parent experiencing issues with borrowed iPads (connectivity, apps not working properly, etc.), the best solution the Tech Dept. has found is to have the parent reset/erase the device. After they do that, the apps re-install and work correctly. Attempts to “re-push” the app have not worked. Linked here is a is an iPad Reset Quicksheet describing the reset process that can be shared with families. Note that this will remove any data stored on the device.

• 4J Student Services (SSD) Newsletter – I’m not positive everything on here is current, but if you’re interested, linked here is the latest 4J Student Services Department (SSD) Newsletter.

• ODE Update: Supporting our Students in Grades K-8 – If you’re curious of the latest guidance the state sent to districts this past week, linked here is the latest ODE Superintendent Update. I think the main new development is that K-8 schools will be required to provide report cards, but that mark systems will be Pass or Incomplete.

• Keeping Students Engaged in Digital Learning – Whether you’re new to teaching online or a veteran, these Six Edutopia Tips can help you make sure your students stay connected and immersed in learning.

1. Keep it simple and engaging.
2. Make your virtual space clear and comfy.
3. Set Norms
4. Foster Belonging
5. Be Present (but not intrusive)
