March 24, 2020 – Post Spring Break Update

Hi Everyone,

It’s still spring break, so feel free to ignore this email, but principals had a Zoom Meeting with downtown today, which I thought staff would appreciate an update on sooner than later.

This is a very fluid situation and directives from the state change daily, but this is the latest and more details will be shared as we learn more from ODE:

• “Supplemental Education” and Seesaw – Downtown sent out guides for supplemental home learning activities to families last Friday and are now preparing a survey going out to families soon regarding whether they have internet access at home and whether they need a computer or other device to access supplemental education. More details on this are coming.

School districts are still waiting for the state to give a clear definition of “Supplemental Education,” which will guide what we will provide students. ODE is supposed to provide more guidance Wednesday or Thursday.

The method by which we’ll deliver the supplemental learning will be Seesaw (K–5) and Google Classroom (6–12), with teachers creating three weeks of online instructional materials for students, for April 6 – 28 . Teachers will have a week of planning and prep March 30 – April 3. There will be differentiated trainings on Seesaw, one for newbies and one for those already familiar. More details to come on this as well.

• Working at Home or at School? – Staff are allowed to work in the building if you can maintain social distancing (6-feet or more), but the state is still encouraging people to work remotely if possible. For staff who are required to come to work, the state has created a new “COVID-19 Leave” which employees can access if they are unable to come to work due to being sick, have a sick person in their household, or if they have child care issues.

Again, more details are coming on all of this as we get more information from the state, but feel free to email, call, or text me if you have any questions.

Take care of yourselves and your families!

Allan
