      Autobiography:

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher. When I was a child, I would set up a quasi-classroom and gather all of my friends together in order to teach them. Not much has changed after 20 plus years, I still strive to be a teacher.

I was born in Eugene, OR in 1970. My family and I moved to Veneta when I was five years old and I spent the next thirteen years of my life growing up in that small community. I attended Elmira High School where I was very active in extra-curricular activities including: ski team and club, golf, basketball, student council, Spanish club, French club, and FBLA. Besides these extra-curricular activities, I was also enrolled in the College High program, where I would take college level classes through Lane Community College and would receive both high school and college credit. By the time I graduated from high school in 1988, I almost had a full year of college level work done.

After high school I attended the University of Oregon, with the intention of being a biology teacher. Little did I know that a first year French class that I took on a whim would end up influencing the direction of my career. At the end of my freshman year, I changed my major to English and decide to pursue a minor in French. I graduated from the U of O in 1992 with my first BA. I returned to U of O in the fall of 1992, in order to obtain a BA in French. I finished this degree in the spring of 1994, along with a minor in Italian.

Once finished with six years of school, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to travel through
Europe for five weeks. I spent time in France, Italy, Germany, Ireland and England. It was such a wonderful experience to visit such beautiful places about which I had learned so much. The opportunity to use and improve my language skills was by far the most valuable experience that I obtained from the trip.

I started my masters program in the summer of 1995 with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies: Education and French. It is through this program that I received training relevant to teaching the acquisition of a foreign language as well as teaching in general. I finished the licensure portion of the program in the spring of 1996 and continued on with school in order to obtain my MA in the summer of 1997 and to earn my ESOL endorsement. In the summer of 1998 I added my Language Arts endorsement.

I taught both English and French for two years at Marist High School in Eugene, OR.  In 1999, I started working both at Sheldon HS and Spencer Butte MS teaching multiple levels of French.  In 2001, I said au revoir to Spencer Butte and started teaching full-time at SHS in both French & English.  In Fall of 2007, I returned to teaching just French.

Besides entertaining students in a classroom, a good chunk of my time here at SHS is spent coaching Pétanque during the fall and spring season and taking students to Europe. When not grading my students’ papers, I like to spend time with my husband Josh, my daughter Chloé, and my son Enzo.  We pass our time traveling, working on our house, and riding scooters with our friends.
